"Helsinki is a cozy city of a few hundred thousand people."

Actually there are 1.3 million people in the Helsinki metropolitan area (600,000 in the city itself). Not a big deal, but I just wanted to say that! :) Greeting from Finland, hope you enjoyed your stay here.

Brass City Bistro and Quench are relatively new which explains why your wife hasn't heard of them. They are all good but I don't like the Steak house in Waterbury, Carmen Anthony's Fishnhouse in Woodbury is much better.

Waterbury is a shit hole today. In virtually all of its public schools over half the student populations are on assisted lunch programs. In other words, its a poor, welfare town with corrupt politicians and police officers that don't care about much. Waterbury was once the Brass Capital of the World. It had a reason to exist. There was manufacturing, jobs and a reason to live here. That is all gone now. The only thing in Waterbury are stores now Everything is commercial and retail. The town serves absolutely no purpose and produces nothing.

I am from Waterbury, one thing we do rival other towns in is our underground poker games. That is about it. Oh and the tax rate is really high but the property value is pretty low. This town is not a good town. Lots of history? Yes. What place doesn't have lots of history.

Don't move here but give the indoor water park a try ;)

I work in Waterbury, but live on the East Haven/New Haven line. While I've made many good friends at the establishments you mentioned, New Haven takes the cake when it comes to food. The obvious reason for that is Yale's presence. Regardless, I have also enjoyed myself at some of the Waterbury restaurants, and a good experience is all I want sometimes after a long on-air shift at the radio station.

I would have to say that your attitude strikes me as odd. Someone who is as well-versed in other cultures as you are should realize that each group, each culture has its own ideas of what is good. Knowing that and acting accordingly is a sign of a truly worldly person.
